10 Things I Love About UChicago

1. There are coffee shops everywhere - hidden in loud basements, the calm corners of ivy covered buildings, and the lobbies of medical centers and museums. UChicago caffeine is my life.

2. Our mascot is a phoenix. A PHOENIX. It dances at games, hugs people a lot, and is the inspiration behind phoenixing. 

3. We live in Chicago and all the deep-dishy goodness of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. This means: internships, free afternoons at the Art Institute and never being at a loss for how to spend a weekend. 

4. You have time to figure out what you want to concentrate in, and can design your own major if you can’t find one that fits. 

5. Our international students sometimes invite you home for the holidays…

6. Dean Boyer and I pass each other on the quads all the time on our bicycles. 

7. The house system is just like Hogwarts, but we play intermural sports instead of Quidditch. I swear, that’s the only difference. (Note: there is a new Quidditch club)

8. Bart Mart is the midnight snack temple of Hyde Park for everyone up late in the Reg. I have never regretted the barbecue chips, m&ms and pizza I eat all at once. Never.

9. There are working fireplaces in the Reynold’s Club in the winter time, which perfectly accompany coffee (always), readings for class, and a huge sweater.
